AI Growth Kit vs Submagic
Submagic prices per member: Starter is $19 a month ($12 billed yearly, $144 a year) for 15 videos up to 2 minutes each, Pro is $39 ($23 billed yearly, $276 a year) for 40 videos up to 5 minutes, and Business is $69 ($41 billed yearly, $492 a year) for up to 100 videos up to 30 minutes. If you caption more than 3 to 5 sixty-second clips a month, pay for Submagic: its monthly allowance includes styled, animated caption templates and a downloadable SRT or VTT file, neither of which our Subtitler offers. For one clip, an occasional batch, or a longer video you do not want to upgrade plans to caption, AI Growth Kit is the simpler buy: a $9 Starter Pack is a one-time purchase that never expires, billed at a flat 2 credits per second up to 30 minutes.

| Free plan or trial | 20 credits once, at sign-up (10 seconds of captions). No watermark. | No published ongoing free plan; Starter at $19 a month is the cheapest tier shown. Its own site invites new users to "try for free" with "no credit card required", without stating a specific free allowance. |
| Cost per caption job | 2 credits per second (120 a minute) at any length: a 60-second clip uses $5.40 of credits at the $9 Starter Pack rate or $3.93 at the $59 Power Pack rate ($2.94 on a fully used $49 Pro plan). | Billed as a monthly allowance of videos: 15 on Starter ($1.27/video monthly, $0.80 yearly at full use), 40 on Pro ($0.98 monthly, $0.58 yearly), or up to 100 on Business ($0.69 monthly, $0.41 yearly), each capped at the plan's max duration. |
| Max video length | Up to 30 minutes, any pack or plan, same 2-credits-per-second rate. | Capped by plan tier, not sold separately: 2 minutes on Starter, 5 on Pro, 30 on Business. |
| Export resolution & frame rate | Subtitler preserves your source video resolution; our separate 4K Upscaler upgrades footage to 4K for 3 credits per second on any pack or plan. | Starter: 1080p at 30 FPS. Pro: 1080p at 30 FPS on the plan card (1080p, 2K in the feature comparison table). Business: up to 4K at 60 FPS. |
| Caption styles | One default style, no options. | Standard templates on Starter; Premium animated templates, custom fonts, Brand Kit and saved custom templates (3 on Pro, 5 to unlimited on Business). |

| Caption file export | Burned-in MP4 only. | SRT, VTT, or a burned-in ("hardcoded") export, your choice, per its subtitles-download page. |
| AI video & image credits | One shared credit balance: AI video generation at 10 credits/second (3–15 s by model), image generation at 8 credits/image, Video Extend at 10 credits/second, Video Edit at 180 credits per 15-second clip. | Paid plan cards include monthly credits to generate AI videos and AI images: 45 credits on Starter, 120 on Pro, 300 on Business. |
| Watermark | None, including output paid for with the free credits. | None on Starter, Pro or Business, per its own plan-comparison table. |
| Beyond captions | Nothing — one input, one captioned file. | A fuller short-form toolkit: text-based trimming, automatic b-roll (Storyblocks on Pro and Business), auto-zoom, filler-word, bad-take and silence removal, AI Clean audio, hook-title suggestions, and publishing directly from the editor. |
| Team seats | None: one login, one credit balance. | 1 user on Starter, 3 on Pro, unlimited on Business, billed per member. |
Where Submagic is clearly better
Submagic is built specifically for short-form captions, and it shows: styled, animated templates instead of one fixed look, a downloadable SRT or VTT file alongside the burned-in export, and automatic captions in 123+ languages against our 20. Past 3 to 5 sixty-second clips a month, its flat monthly video allowance is dramatically cheaper than metering every second — see the numbers below.
It is also a fuller toolkit built around the caption, not just the caption itself: text-based trimming on Starter, plus Storyblocks b-roll, auto-zoom, filler-word, bad-take and silence removal, AI Clean audio, hook-title suggestions, and publishing directly from the editor, alongside monthly credits (45, 120 or 300) to generate AI videos and images. Our Subtitler takes one video in and returns one captioned file, nothing else.
Where AI Growth Kit is better
No subscription required, at any volume: a $9–$59 pack is a one-time purchase, pack credits never expire, and failed jobs are refunded. Submagic publishes no lasting free plan on its pricing page; its cheapest tier is $19 a month ($12 billed yearly), and it only invites you to "try for free" before stating any specific free allowance.
Video length and 4K resolution do not push you onto a pricier plan: our Subtitler accepts up to 30 minutes at the same 2-credits-a-second rate on any pack or plan, and our 4K Upscaler upgrades clips to 4K for 3 credits per second without a tier gate. On Submagic, duration and 4K export are capped by plan tier independent of how many videos you make — a single 10-minute video or a 4K/60 FPS export needs the $69-a-month Business plan ($41 billed yearly) even if it is the only video you process that month.
One flat, published rate for every job, 2 credits a second, shown before you submit, instead of a monthly video allowance measured against a length cap.
Submagic pricing vs per-second credits at three monthly volumes
As of October 2026, Submagic prices per member across three self-serve tiers: Starter at $19 a month ($12 billed yearly, $144 a year) for 15 videos up to 2 minutes each; Pro at $39 a month ($23 billed yearly, $276 a year) for 40 videos up to 5 minutes; and Business at $69 a month ($41 billed yearly, $492 a year) for up to 100 videos up to 30 minutes. If you use a plan's full monthly video allowance, each captioned video works out to $1.27 on Starter, $0.98 on Pro and $0.69 on Business when billed monthly — or $0.80, $0.58 and $0.41 per video when billed yearly. On AI Growth Kit, subtitles cost 2 credits per second (120 credits a minute): a 60-second clip costs $5.40 in consumed credits at the Starter Pack rate ($9 for 200 credits), $3.93 at the Power Pack rate ($59 for 1,800 credits, our cheapest pack rate), and $2.94 on a fully used $49 Pro plan (2,000 credits a month).
One 30-second or 60-second clip: 60 or 120 credits on AI Growth Kit ($2.70 or $5.40 in consumed credits at the Starter Pack rate; $1.97 or $3.93 at the Power Pack rate). A single $9 Starter Pack (200 credits) covers either job out of pocket and leaves 140 or 80 non-expiring credits for next time. Submagic has no per-video purchase option: one short clip still requires at least a month of Starter at $19 (or $144 upfront on annual billing), and one 10-minute video requires Business at $69 for the month.
Break-even and 10 clips a month (60 seconds each): Against Submagic Starter's $19 monthly price, the break-even for 60-second clips is about 3.5 clips a month at the Starter Pack rate ($19 ÷ $5.40) and 4.8 clips at the Power Pack rate ($19 ÷ $3.93); against Starter's $12 yearly-billed rate, it is 2.2 clips at the Starter Pack rate ($12 ÷ $5.40) and 3.1 clips at the Power Pack rate ($12 ÷ $3.93). At 10 sixty-second clips a month (1,200 credits), AI Growth Kit costs $39.33 in consumed credits at the Power Pack rate (1,200 ÷ 1,800 × $59, requiring one $59 Power Pack upfront with 600 credits left over), $49 on the monthly Pro plan (with 800 credits to spare), or about $38.67 combining the $19 Starter plan's 600 credits with 600 Power Pack credits. Submagic's Starter plan covers the same 10 clips inside its 15-video monthly allowance for $19 a month, or $12 billed yearly — cheaper than any of our options.
30 clips a month (60 seconds each): 3,600 credits on AI Growth Kit. Combining the $49 Pro plan's 2,000 credits with a Power Pack-rate top-up for the remaining 1,600 (1,600 ÷ 1,800 × $59 ≈ $52.44) comes to about $101.44 a month, or $118 for two whole $59 Power Packs. Submagic's Pro plan covers 30 clips inside its 40-video allowance for $39 a month, or $23 billed yearly — less than half our monthly total, and the gap widens the more you caption.
How to decide
Start from how many clips you caption in a typical month, and whether a plan-tied video-length or 4K cap matters to you.
- More than 3 to 5 sixty-second clips a month, animated caption styles, or an SRT/VTT file: Submagic Starter ($19/mo or $12/mo yearly) or Pro ($39/mo or $23/mo yearly).
- One to three clips a month, a few a year, or a video longer than 2–5 minutes without upgrading to a $39 or $69 monthly tier: AI Growth Kit.
Choose Submagic if…
- You caption more than 3 to 5 sixty-second clips a month: Submagic's flat monthly video allowance beats our per-second credits past that point ($19–$39 a month vs roughly $39–$101 on our side for 10–30 clips).
- You want styled, animated caption templates, not one default look.
- You need a downloadable SRT or VTT file, not just a burned-in video.
- You want automatic captions in a language outside our 20: Submagic lists 123+.
- You also want b-roll, auto-zoom, filler-word removal, or publishing directly from the same editor.
- A team needs seats under one account.
Choose AI Growth Kit if…
- You have one clip, or a few a year, and do not want a subscription: a $9 pack is a one-time purchase that never expires.
- Your video runs longer than 2–5 minutes and you do not want to pay $39 or $69 a month just to caption it once: we charge the same 2 credits a second at any length up to 30 minutes.
- You want one flat, published rate shown before you submit, not a monthly video allowance to track against a length cap.
- You also want 4K upscaling, an AI-generated image or clip, or a video extend or edit from the same non-expiring credit balance.
Questions
How much does Submagic cost?
As of October 2026, Submagic is priced per member: Starter is $19 a month or $12 a month billed yearly ($144 a year, save $84) for 15 videos up to 2 minutes each and 45 AI credits; Pro is $39 a month or $23 a month billed yearly ($276 a year, save $192) for 40 videos up to 5 minutes each and 120 AI credits; Business is $69 a month or $41 a month billed yearly ($492 a year, save $336) for up to 100 videos up to 30 minutes each, 4K/60 FPS export and 300 AI credits. A Custom tier is sold via sales, and optional API credit packs run from $57 a month (250 minutes, $0.23/min) to $1,000 a month (10,000 minutes, $0.10/min). AI Growth Kit has no seats or required subscription: captions cost 2 credits per second ($5.40 a minute at the $9 Starter Pack rate, or $3.93 a minute at the $59 Power Pack rate).
How much is Submagic Pro vs Starter?
Submagic Starter is $19 a month ($12 billed yearly) and covers 15 videos a month up to 2 minutes each at 1080p and 30 FPS, with Standard caption templates, free b-roll and text-based trimming. Submagic Pro is $39 a month ($23 billed yearly) and raises the allowance to 40 videos a month up to 5 minutes each, adding Premium caption templates, Storyblocks b-roll and audio, AI auto-zooms, bad-take and silence removal, AI Clean audio, Brand Kit, custom fonts, 3 custom templates, and social publishing with analytics.
Does Submagic have a free plan?
Submagic does not list an ongoing free tier on its pricing page — Starter at $19 a month is the lowest plan shown. Its site invites new users to "try for free" with "no credit card required" without publishing a specific free allowance. AI Growth Kit gives 20 free credits once at sign-up (10 seconds of watermark-free captions) and sells non-expiring packs starting at $9.
Are Submagic's SRT files usable outside Submagic?
Submagic lets you download subtitles as SRT or VTT. Those are standard subtitle formats that most editors and players accept, though Submagic's own pages don't spell out portability. Our Subtitler only returns a video with captions burned into the picture; there is no separate file to reuse.
Can I use both?
Yes. Caption routine short-form clips in Submagic for the styled templates and SRT files; use our Subtitler for a one-off clip with no subscription, or for a longer video that would otherwise push you onto a higher Submagic plan tier.
