How to Extend a Video With AI (Make Short Clips Longer)

June 23, 2026 · 6 min read

A clip ends a beat too soon. The shot is great but you need three more seconds to fit the music. AI video extension solves exactly this: it takes an existing clip and continues it, generating new frames that flow on from where the video left off.

What video extension does

Video extension reads the end of your clip — the motion, the scene, the camera — and generates additional seconds that continue naturally. It's different from generating a video from scratch: the model is constrained by your existing footage and has to make the continuation match.

Think of it as “and then keep going” for video.

When it works well

When to be careful

How to do it (step by step)

  1. Upload the clip you want to continue.
  2. Set how many seconds to add — start small (3-5s).
  3. Optionally write a continuation prompt: a short description of what should happen next. Leave it blank to let the model continue naturally.
  4. Pick aspect ratio and resolution to match the source.
  5. Generate, then review. If it drifts, shorten the extension and retry.

Extension vs generation vs editing

Most real projects use all three: generate the base shots, extend the ones that end too soon, and edit the ones that need a tweak.
